The Enstars Shipping Olympics
The ESO is an Enstars fandom event intended to promote creativity, shipping fun and collaboration. You'll be able to compete as part of a team to create fanworks and show love for a pairing of your choice, and earn points in different ways while supporting other competitors.

Of course, this isn't a competition to see which ship is the best or has the most dedicated fans - the points system is just for added excitement. The main goal is to push yourself creatively, share your work and have fun!

The event is currently planned to start on July 7 and end on August 11. (View the full schedule)

Announcements will be made through the ESO twitter and you will need a Twitter account in order to play.

Welcome to the ESO! To get our creative juices flowing, we're opening with a Team Banner Bonus Round and giving all teams the opportunity to rep their ship with a banner. Participation in this round is optional, but your team will be rewarded a bonus of 100 points if you choose to participate. The banners will be used on an index post to link to each team's tag on the [community profile] esomain community.

To participate in this round:
  • Create a 1000 x 250 pixel horizontal banner (png, jpg, or gif) including your team name and a catchphrase/tag line
  • Upload it to any image hosting website
  • Contact the mod team through Twitter DM or Discord DM with the link to your banner

Each team should submit only ONE banner if they choose to participate, so plan to cooperate or designate one person to complete the task.

You may be wondering, "Does graphic design have to be my passion?" And the answer is, absolutely not. Please feel free to submit an MS Paint doodle or a photo of a napkin you've scribbled on as long as it includes both your team and your catchphrase.

Submissions open: Now!
Deadline: 7 July

Have fun, and we can't wait to see what you come up with!

Welcome to the third round of the ESO! This is the final stretch, so let’s sprint to the end with the Free Play Round. This time, you have the liberty of making as many pieces of fanwork as you want for your team—anything goes, and we can’t wait to see what you come up with.

The prompts for this round are:

Day 1 - Memories and Recordings
Day 2 - Out on a date
Day 3 - Fight / Compromise
Day 4 - Seasons
Day 5 - Time Travel
Day 6 - Strange Questions
Day 7 - Food

(By no means should you try to respond to every single one of those, please take the round at your own pace!)

To participate in this round, you can submit as many pieces of fanwork for your ship as you want, and your team will be awarded points based on the fanworks you have collectively submitted.

Submissions open: 4 August
Deadline: 11 August

Welcome to the second round of the ESO! We’re super excited that you’re joining us for our Gifting Round. This round, you’ll be filling prompts submitted by others to accumulate points.

The prompts for this round can be found in this delightful spreadsheet!

The round has ended, but these prompts are available to fill indefinitely. Please feel free to continue adding works to the #ESOround2 tag on Twitter, the ESO collection on AO3 or to link them in the replies of this tweet if you would like to make it easier for people to find them.

To participate in this round, you can choose to submit fanwork to fill as many prompts as you want, and your team will be awarded points based on the number of prompts you have filled.

It's good practice to claim a prompt when you start working on it, to let other people know that someone else is making something for it already. You are free to claim any prompts other than your own, even if they are not for the ship you signed up for. Try to finish one prompt fill before claiming another. The form for claims can be found here.

We'd encourage you to pick prompts that nobody else has claimed yet, so that as many people as possible can receive something this round, but it's okay if you want to do one that's already been claimed too.

Submissions open: 21 July
Deadline: 28 July

For the second round of the ESO, we'll be filling each other's prompts! As preparation, we are asking for one prompt per participant (not per team). This prompt can be for any Enstars ship (or no ship at all) and any scenario (feel free to go into as much or as little detail as you want). Please go ahead and prompt something self-indulgent - this is a round about giving gifts to each other, after all, so make sure you'll be receiving something you like.

All the prompts will be published in a spreadsheet, and when the second round opens, you will be able to fill any prompts, and number of prompts of your choice (as long as it's not your own one). You will get points per prompt that you fill (more details on this will be released when the round starts.)

Multiple people will be able to claim the same prompt, but we will have a function on the spreadsheet to let you know how many claims a prompt already has, if you'd like to be sure you're picking one that nobody else is already doing. Let's try to make sure as many people get gifts as possible!

Prompting opens: 15 July
Prompting closes: 20 July

Submit your prompt here. Remember, only one prompt per participant, so please make sure to identify yourself via your Twitter handle! Additionally, if you would like to change your prompt, please submit the form again using the same Twitter handle.

View submitted prompts here. We will be updating this spreadsheet with approved prompts, so feel free to take a peek if you want to get a head start.

We can't wait to see what you come up with!
Welcome to the first round of the ESO. This is the main round: your chance to pull out all the stops and create something special for your ship!

This round, the two prompts are:

  • Quote - this could be a quote from an Enstars story or song lyric

  • Discovery - whether the discovery of old secrets, new horizons or anything else

  • To participate in this round, your team should produce a number of fanworks less than or equal to the number of team members participating in this round. E.g. if four people contribute to your team's entry, that entry can have up to four fanworks in it, even if your team actually has five members total. (This is to encourage collabs—for example, while each person in the team could produce a single fanwork, if two people collaborated, that would only count as one fanwork, leaving room for a second collab.)

    Sign-ups open: 18 June
    Sign-ups close: 3 July

    Keep in mind:

    • Teams are open on a first come, first served basis—we will be updating the team rosters in manually in order to verify participants.
    • Eligible teams will have 3 to 6 members.
    • Once a team qualifies for the first round, it's fine if it drops below the minimum number of members.
    • You can only be a member of one team.
    • This competition is open to participants of all ages, so we will not be accepting sign-ups for incestuous ships or teacher/student ships.
    • If you are signing up for Team Rarepair or Team Gen, please write that in instead of a ship name.
    • If you would like to switch teams, please edit your submission or submit a new form with the same name/Twitter handle.
    • If you wish to change teams after the event starts, you will need to DM the ESO twitter.

Each team requires a captain in order to be recognised. Captains will be expected to:

    • Make some form of group chat for your team and check in with them regularly
    • Organise and submit the team's entry on Dreamwidth for each round (so if you don't have a Dreamwidth account, you will need to make one)
    • DM the ESO twitter with any issues your team has, and respond to any DMs received

The job of captain is first come, first served. To register as captain, please check "yes" when prompted on the Team Sign-Up form.

You are encouraged to be optimistic and sign up for the pairing you would most like to support, even if you think it won't have enough members—in the best case, you will end up with a team, and in the worst case, you can just switch teams after signups are closed.

We will be opening a dedicated team switching period after we close sign-ups, so don't worry if you're still feeling indecisive—go ahead and send in your form. If you haven't submitted a form before the sign-up period closes, we will not be accepting new registrations during the team switching period.

    Switching period opens: 3 July
    Switching period closes: 6 July

Signups for the ESO are now closed.
Check out the current team rosters here.

As always, please direct questions to the ESO twitter or message the curiouscat.
There will be three different rounds to the ESO. Here is a brief description of each, though full details will be released at a later date.

    1. Main round: details are here
    2. Gifting round: all participants get to submit one prompt each, then earn points by creating work for other people's prompts. There will be no restrictions on which ships you prompt or which prompts you take during this round!
    3. Free Play round: you can gain points for each new creation you submit of your team's ship.

Each round will last a week, with another week in between for voting and score tallying.
